A WELL-MANAGED WORKING FOREST WORKS FOR OUR CLIMATE.

In addition to removing and storing carbon, the working forest’s diversity of tree age and species creates a more resilient ecosystem that is less vulnerable to pests, wildfire and the effects of climate change – ensuring long-term sustainability.

CREATING HEALTHY HABITATS WHERE WILDLIFE THRIVES.

We have designated more than 68,800 hectares (170,000 acres) of old forest. This is part of an objective to maintain old forest within the working forest landscape. Maintaining tree species and wildlife diversity is part of responsible forest management. A total of 25 per cent of the lands we manage are set aside for conservation. That’s over 530,000 hectares (1.3 million acres).

LOCAL COMMUNITIES FLOURISH WITH WELL-MANAGED FORESTS.

A well-managed working forest works for local communities. Not only do working forests create jobs and produce a consistent supply of renewable materials for the forest products we need, but they also help build community and local economies thanks to population growth, taxes, recreational activities and tourism.

Working Forests Provide Renewable Solutions We Need

Working forests ensure that a continuous cycle of harvest and renewal happens while also providing the wood and forest products that we need. Forests are a natural carbon sink, capturing and storing carbon during the lifecycle of the forest, while products made from wood store carbon as well. We continue to find ways to reduce waste and carbon and lower our impact.
